The Jamie Begian Big
Band is a seventeen-piece big band, founded in 1998 to perform the original music of award-winning composer/conductor Jamie Begian. After its debut at El Taller on February 18, 1999, The
Band went on to perform at such notable venues as The Knitting Factory and The Cutting Room in New York, and the 2003 International Association of Jazz Education Annual Conference in Toronto,
Ontario.
In its five years of existence it has considerably honed its unique sound and is widely regarded as one of the most original bands in New York. The Village Voice has called it "some of the most
gorgeous post-Gil hues in recent memory." TimeOut NY praises it as "a crack large ensemble" while All About Jazz labeled it "a rigorous encounter with the entire history of eclectic big band
composition" The band is made up of some of the finest musicians in New York including John O'Gallagher (alto), Matt Shulman (trumpet), Roberta Piket (piano) and Deborah Weisz (trombone); all
committed to both the power and delicacy that Mr. Begian's music demands.

To describe the music of Los Changos, you would have to learn different languages: the language of classical music that had a strong impact in the development of composer Julio
Santillan; the language of Tango and folkloric music of his native Argentina and the language of jazz, that is evident in the new generations of composers. But I would dare to say, that not even
understanding these worlds would you be able to describe the magic hidden behind this fine trio of musicians. Those three styles, so different from each other, find in "Los changos" a point of
connection, a door to unlimited musical possibilities.
Los Changos was formed by guitarist/composer Julio A. Santillan's and drummer Franco Pinna when they both attended Berklee College of music in 1998. Bassist Fernando Huergo, a Berklee faculty, joined
them later and the group started recording and performing in and outside the US. they have participated in many concerts and festivals in the east coast including: The group has toured Argentina in
four opportunities. In 2001 the trio released their first CD called "Desde el Norte" (BigSur Records). In 2003 Los Changos released "Anit Negra" (BigSur Records). The repertoire of the trio is
original music by Julio Santillan, who received the prestigious "Meet the Composer/Van Lier Fellowship Award" in 2004, the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award, the Arif Mardin Award and the ASCAPlus Award. In
"Qann" the trio consolidates the path that started many years ago with "Desde el Norte". Another step to find their own sound and identity in music.

eternidad. |

Jammin anyone? Written Jams by Carlos Cervantes
Carlos Cervantes announces a concert without knowing exactly with whom he'll be playing; afterward; musicians arrive and play their parts. They are not always the same, but they are the best
musicians that New York has to offer. Jack Jeffers and Enrique Fernandez were preparing the details of their big band "New York Classics" next performance, but when they heard what Carlos was going
to play, they forgot their own concert: "When is Carlos playing? Let me know I used to go to his midnight concerts in the 80's I'm coming when he plays!" The same has been said by many other
musicians since
Carlos began to play and the list is surprising not only for the quantity, but also for the quality of names of those who come since the initiation of Luis Miguel of a production of Lupita D'alessio
an her collaboration with Jaco Pastorius. Carlos Cervantes mentions that he gets musical influence from Julian Carrillo, and he has incorporated some of the Mexican composers' styles into his own.
Carlos Cervantes prefers to define his music as a form of spiritual jazz, if it had to be categorized.
